INVESTIGATION, PLANNING, DESIGN AND DER PREPARATION OF WATER SUPPLY PROJECTS
Kerala Water Authority is undertaking several projects in Rural and Urban water supply with financial assistance from State / Central Governments and from various financial institutions like NABARD, ADB, KIIFB and AMRUT. Well planned project reports are indispensible for this. Besides it is imperative to have water shed based master plans for water supply. Recognizing this need, the PPD Wing was constituted in KWA in the year 2016. The wing looks after the investigation, planning, hydraulic designs and preparation of Detailed Engineering Reports of Water Supply projects throughout the state. Under the Chief Engineer (PPD &WASCON), it has 3 regional circle offices at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode, each under a Superintending Engineer. Each circle has one Executive Engineer, two or three Assistant Executive Engineers, Assistant engineers and a team of surveyors.
INVESTIGATION, PLANNING, DESIGN AND DER PREPARATION OF SEWERAGE PROJECTS
Environment protection has become a vital aspect in the present era of sustainable development. With unplanned urbanization and pollution of water sources through intrusion of sewage and septage, it has become a complex challenge to public health and safety. Although the responsibilities of environment protection rest with the local authorities, they have little infrastructure or expertise to tackle the situation.
As per the Kerala Water Supply and Sewerage Act 1986, the functions of the Authority include collection and disposal of waste water and efficient sewerage services to the people of the State. Kerala Water Authority, being a statewide establishment has many qualified and experienced personnel in public health engineering. A Sewerage Vertical wing has been created in KWA with Chief Engineer, PPD & WASCON as its head. Investigation, planning, design and DER preparation of Sewerage projects is being taken up in this wing.
DESIGN AND VETTING THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF COMPONENTS
Structural design, the skeleton of any Civil Engineering Structure, is done under WASCON, the Consultancy Wing of Kerala Water Authority. WASCON has the capability of taking up consultancy jobs of Civil Engineering projects apart from dealing with KWA’s own projects. It was formed in the year 2008 with a centralized unit located in Thiruvananthapuram with one Deputy Chief Engineer and 4 Assistant Executive Engineers and supporting staffs. WASCON has expertise in the design of Water Supply and Sewerage Scheme components like treatment plants, water tanks and pipe carrying bridges. The unit also undertakes consultancy work of other department or agencies based on requirement.
