Tribunal(NGT) while considering various OAs related to pollution of river stretches, pollution of\u00a0 coastal regions, pollution of ground water and restoration of water bodies in various States and UTs\u00a0 has ordered that all States and UTs shall\u00a0 ensure that various measures are taken to prevent the pollution of river stretches, water bodies and\u00a0 coastal areas on priority basis and within specified time limits. One of the directions is to ensure 100% treatment of sewage at least to the extent of in-situ remediation. Following this, being the agency for ensuring sewerage services in the State, Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has created a separate Vertical with in it\u00a0 exclusively for sewerage works across the State. Meanwhile, in line with the latest orders of NGT, the State of Kerala has made IDRB the nodal agency for pollution abatement in 21 river stretches identified by CPCB and has initiated steps to abate the pollution of these river stretches. Preliminary report in this regard has been prepared with the help of leading academic institutions in the State. The newly formed Sewerage Vertical of KWA has prepared Preliminary Engineering Report for establishing a sewerage network\/ septage management across the State.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Besides, based on availability of funds, many works to strenthen the existing sewerage system in the city of Thiruvananthapuram have been taken up by KWA for abating the pollution of rivers.
